What happens before death

You are cared for at every minute of your life, including just before your transition into the next life, what we call dying. But your transition is a special event, so the care you will receive will be more than you could imagine. In this video, I’m going to tell you what the Afterlife Research and Education Institute has learned from people living in the afterlife about what will happen to us when we go on into the next life.

We have many hundreds of thousands of reports from people living in the afterlife about what happened when they made their transition to the next life. This is what they tell us.

What Happens at the Moment the Body Dies?

At the moment the earth body stops functioning, the person stops using the Earth body, but continues to have all the body experiences they had before. They still see, hear, smell, and touch. They are the same person. The transition from the body is like awakening from a dream. The person has not changed. The person’s experiences are different.

The residents of the afterlife have made the transition, and all remark how easy the transition is. For those who experience a catastrophic death, there may be a brief coma or period of unconsciousness during which the transition takes place, or the person may suddenly be standing next to the lifeless body with no experience or recollection of the separation itself.[i] There are accounts of people being taken away from an impending disaster and watching it happen from the safety of a lofty position. For those who have made the transition after a period of declining health, the individual is greeted by people in spirit as the transition occurs. All fear or anxiety dissolves and a profound peace comes over the person.

There are many accounts of floating out of the body in the moments after the body is abandoned. Some of the descriptions note a snapping of what seem to be strings attaching the person’s spirit to the body.

People near the body often describe things happening in the room: a sudden light, at times blinding; a white, grey, or blue-white “soul mist” coming up from the body; a vaporous body shape with the features of the transitioning person; a silver or grey cord or many threads from the body connecting to the vaporous body shape that dissolve or snap; the vaporous body rising and disappearing into a corner of the room; and the vision of loved ones who have come to escort the person from the earth realm. Some report seeing a transfer of energy from the physical body to the new, separate body, called an etheric body, life-body, subtle body, vital body, astral body, or spirit body that is a duplicate of the physical body. The spirit body seems to move toward the head and exit from the top of the head, although some have described witnessing some vaporous form exiting from the solar plexus.

Will I Feel Pain at the Transition?

All speakers from the life after this life say there is no pain during the transition.

People who transition because of illness have no experience of the body’s pain at the end, even though the people gathered around the deathbed see struggles or signs of pain.

People who transition because of a horrendous accident are spared the pain of the trauma that results in their transition, although they may experience the fear and trauma leading up to the accident. But they describe being taken out just before the actual trauma.

A man communicating through South African trance medium Nina Merrington explained that he was spared the pain of a fatal auto accident and actually observed the event from outside of it. His name was Mike Swain. He had died in an auto accident. Swain told his father, a South African lawyer, that he left his body an instant before the cars actually collided. Heather, his fiancée’s young sister, was also killed in the accident. Mike told of being blinded by the glare of the sun reflecting off of the windscreen of the oncoming car. He said, “All of a sudden, the radiance changes from silver to gold. I am being lifted up in the air, out through the top of the car. I grabbed little Heather’s hand. She too is being lifted up out of the car.” When they were about 30 feet above the car, they watched the collision below them happen. They had suffered no pain.[i]

A psychotherapist named Laurel Parnell was using a counseling procedure that sometimes results in afterlife communication with a young woman who told her she was a member of a baseball team that was returning from a game on a plane. The plane crashed. Her entire baseball team was killed when their plane crashed. She was the only survivor. During the counseling, the young woman had an afterlife communication with the deceased members of her team. They told her they were happy in their new, heavenly life. They also said they were taken out of the plane just before it actually crashed. They felt no pain.

The talented medium Suzanne Giesemann tells of receiving messages from the Soul of a man named Jim who was currently in hospice dying of cancer. He explained that although his body was in hospice struggling and in pain, his Soul was already at peace. He said to Suzanne, “The body may appear to be suffering, but my soul is fine.” When the transition is inevitable and the person seems to not be present, the Soul has gone on and is being spared the pain.

We have no accounts from people living in the next life of suffering the pain of a sudden, accidental transition. The person goes on to the next life before the body dies.

At Your Passing, You Might Feel What It is Like to Be Out of the Body

Very often the person in spirit speaking through a medium describes sitting or laying down at one moment and standing next to their lifeless body or above it the next.

At the moment of the transition, people commonly realize their physical body is lying motionless while they are floating above it or standing beside it. One example is from the archives of direct-voice medium Leslie Flint. During one of Flint’s direct-voice sessions, a man in spirit known as Mr. Biggs described what happened at his transition. He was sitting in his easy chair, felt odd, and found himself standing over his body, which was still slumped in the chair.

Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson, who passed into the life after this life in 1914, spoke through medium Anthony Borgia, describing seeing his body as he made the transition from it. He was lying in bed near the time for his transition when this happened.

I suddenly felt a great urge to rise up. I had no physical feeling whatever, very much in the same way that physical feeling is absent during a dream, but I was mentally alert, however much my body seemed to contradict such a condition. Immediately I had this distinct prompting to rise, I found that I was actually doing so. I then discovered that those around my bed did not seem to perceive what I was doing, since they made no effort to come to my assistance, nor did they try in any way to hinder me. Turning, I then beheld what had taken place. I saw my physical body lying lifeless upon its bed, but here was I, the real I, alive and well. . . . At no time was I in any mental distress, but I was full of wonder at what was to happen next, for here I was, in full possession of all my faculties, and, indeed feeling “physically” as I had never felt before.[i] [i] Anthony Borgia, Life in the World Unseen (London: Psychic Press, 1985), 11.

You Will Have Connections with Your Body That Break When the Body Dies

There are many accounts of a silver cord connecting the physical body to an etheric or astral body that is the consciousness of the person. It snaps at the time of the transition.

The silver cord is also known as the life thread. It is described as a white or silver elastic umbilical-like cord that must be attached for the body to have vitality. Some describe two silver cords, one coming from the solar plexus (conveying vitality to the body) and one coming from the head (transmitting consciousness).[i] The silver cord makes a notable snap when the body loses its vitality and the person is freed.

The communicators sometimes describe additional glue-like threads that connect the physical body to the etheric or astral body. These threads similarly snap in a chorus as the physical body gives up the spirit.

No One Makes the Transition Alone

In cases of transitioning from an illness, the family is with the person well before, during, and after the transition. After even sudden transitions, there are “deliverers” who counsel the person.

No one makes the transition alone. In gradual transitions, the transition is anticipated, people appear to the person during the period before the transition, and there are people to help the newly transitioned person. When the transition is sudden, as in an explosion, the family already in the life after this life will not be there at the moment of the transition, but there will be someone called a “deliverer” to help the person adjust until loved ones arrive. Many people take on the role of helper or counselor as part of their spiritual growth that continues in the life after this life.

Some people who have ties to earth they do not want to break or who have such a backward view of the life after this life that they refuse to believe it is real may by their unwillingness to understand the change in their status not be open to help. Some become earthbound as a result.

Events in Near-Death Experiences Are Not Identical to What Happens When a Person Actually Goes into the Afterlife

What happens in the moments after the body stops functioning without resuscitation during a near-death experience is in some ways different from making the transition when the body dies.

In an  near-death experience, the person is still learning lessons and progressing in this life. As a result, the experience prepares the person for a more loving, compassionate life after the experience. At times the  near-death experiencecontains elements not at all in the experience after transition, such as the negative  near-death experiences. Around 1 to 2 percent of NDEers have negative experiences such as sensing a frightening void or graphic hellish imagery.[i] Everything that happens as long as the person remains in Earth School, including the events in an  near-death experience, happens for reasons relevant to the person’s progress in accomplishing the pre-birth plan. The frightening images are intended to teach the experiencer something that will affect their life. No one who has made the transition describes either a frightening void or hellish images.

How Easy Will My Transition Away from My Body Be?

The transition is quite smooth and painless, without trauma or fear. People who have made the transition describe suddenly feeling calm and comfortable, then being aware they are in a new condition. They don’t even notice the transition.

The person may not realize they have transitioned and need help understanding the change. Some are bewildered for a period of time until they make the adjustment. A number of those living in the next life who have spoken about their transitions have described how, in the moments after their bodies died, they felt that they must be dreaming and would wake up.

People who are materialists, with no belief in the survival of consciousness and no understanding of the life they will enter after the transition, may have difficulty accepting the reality of their transition. Their adjustment may be difficult because of the fears they create within themselves about where they are and what will happen to them. It is important for us in Earth School to help people understand who they are in eternity and what happens after the transition to make their transition smoother.

We know more about the transition to the next life than people have ever known. We have many hundreds of thousands of communications from people now living in the afterlife. They tell us without doubt that the transition is easy and painless. You needn’t worry about the transition to the next life. You will have a wonderful reunion with the people and pets you love.
