You are cared for at every minute of your life, including after your transition into the next life, what we call dying. But your transition is a special event, so the care you will receive will be more than you could imagine. In this video, I’m going to tell you what the Afterlife Research and Education Institute has learned from people living in the afterlife about what will happen to us when we go on into the next life.
We have many hundreds of thousands of reports from people living in the afterlife about what happened after they made their transition to the next life. In this video, Dr. R. Craig Hogan presents what we have learned.

What Will You Experience After Your Transition?
You will be happy and surprised at how easy the transition was. After a while, you will be concerned about loved ones on earth and will probably want to visit them.
All people who have made the transition have the same joyous reaction to finding that they continue to live after the body dies. People who have made the transition describe a feeling of being light and free. Any maladies they might have had in Earth School are gone. They experience no pain, even if their bodies were wracked with pain in the last moments of Earth School.
The first perspective of the newly transitioned is that it’s very strange to suddenly leave Earth School and be in this new world that is so much more wonderful.
Will You Be a Changed Person after Your Transition?
You will be the same after the transition as before, with all the same personality traits, attitudes, likes, dislikes, and knowledge about life and the life after this life. The transition is the same as boarding a plane in one country and getting off in another. You will be the same person, just in a new environment.
Your Mind will not change after the transition. You will have the same feelings as before. If someone was angry and hostile in this life, the anger and hostility will remain. If the person was humble and loving, the humility and loving nature will still be there. All your skills, memories, attitudes, preferences, and desires remain the same. You will not become all-knowing. You will still be the same person, just in a different environment.
In the days and weeks after the transition, your perspective will change. After all, you will be sure of the reality that life continues after the body stops functioning, and the importance of everything on earth will diminish.
You will have changes in perceptual abilities. You will communicate telepathically with other people, animals, and even plants.
Do People Go into “Soul Sleep” as Some Christians Believe?
No. There is no soul sleep, in which people go to sleep waiting for the resurrection. Some people do have a short period of “coma” during which the transition occurs. Others may sleep for three to four earth days and awaken to their new life.
The belief among some Christians that people who have left Earth School are sleeping is based on Paul’s statements in 1 Corinthians and 1 Thessalonians that Christians who had transitioned have just fallen asleep and are “sleeping in Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). This belief that people who have left Earth School sleep until the resurrection is commonly referred to as “soul sleep.”
There are reports of Christians living in the next stage of life who have not given up this belief. They are banded together walking around feeling they are sleeping until the resurrection. It’s a delusion. They eventually grow out of it.
Although there is no “soul sleep,” often the person will have a period of sleep that begins immediately at the transition or shortly after being aware of leaving the body. Sometimes that is a short coma. Others may go through a longer period of sleep for two to four earth days that helps them make the transition into the next life.[i] The length of time may depend on the person’s spiritual development that prepares them for the transition. Someone who understands the transition and anticipates it may experience a shorter sleep.[ii]
Where Will You Find Yourself When I Wake Up?
For those who enter a period of sleep after the transition, a range of events may occur. No single event occurs for everyone.
Some people awaken in a hospital-like setting called a “reception area” or “rest house,” where people help them make the adjustment to being dead, and their loved ones come to visit. It is most often described as having many beds and no walls. One person now living in the afterlife described it as a home of rest for those who had come into spirit after a long illness, or who had had a violent passing, and were suffering from shock. … It was three stories high, and entirely open upon all sides. There were many helpers, doctors, and nurses helping the people. All were gradually becoming accustomed to their new life and were elated to realize they had lived on after their bodies died.
Monsignor Robert Hugh Benson speaking through Anthony Borgia described an entire floor of a building, with people sleeping on beds or couches. He explained that the people there had lingering illnesses or sudden and violent transitions and needed this period because of the debilitating effects of their illnesses or a violent event on their Minds.[iii]
Rupert Brooke, the British poet, died in military action in Greece in 1915. He came through in a Leslie Flint session on September 15, 1957. He said that he didn’t awaken in a reception area, but when it was clear he was wandering around perplexed, he was taken to what he called a “cleansing station.” The many who were watching over him decided he was confused enough that he needed a period of rest in a relaxed setting.[iv]
Some who have transitioned describe awakening in a comfortable room with beautiful furniture and light streaming through windows. Others describe awakening in familiar surroundings, such as in a room where they grew up. Their family now in the life after this life is there when they awaken.
Princess Alexandra of Denmark, Queen Consort of Edward VII of England, describes in a Leslie Flint session where she found herself upon awakening. She said after her body died, she awakened in a room identical to the room she had been very fond of when she was a little girl. In every way it seemed to be an exact the same: the colorings, the materials, the furnishings. It was so real that she didn’t even realize she had passed away. As she awoke, she was delighted to see relatives and friends who had passed away surrounding her. It was almost like a kind of reception.
In other accounts given by people who have made the transition, the person awakens in a natural setting and is greeted by a loved one. In one example from Leslie Flint’s session recordings, a man named George Wilmot described his life as a trash collector. He said he had a horse named Jenny he loved. She pulled his cart. He had been devastated when Jenny died. In his talk from the afterlife, he said that after his transition, he woke up in a field under a tree. He said he was overjoyed to see his horse, Jenny, coming towards him. Jenny walked up to him and nuzzled him affectionately.
What will My Condition Be Immediately After my Transition?
After the transition, people describe a wonderful feelings of being healthy and free of pain. Many say their senses are more acute than ever before. They are happy at how wonderful they feel and how glorious their surroundings are.
After they have transitioned, people are the same as they were before the transition, with all the senses they had and with body experiences, so they have no indications they are no longer in the body. Many people believe themselves to be in a dream from which they will soon awaken.
Will You Have Reunions with Your Loved Ones Already in the Afterlife?
There are always wonderful reunions with the people and pets the person loved while on Earth. Family, friends, and even acquaintances have a joyous coming-home experience with the new arrival. One man described awakening on a couch in a beautiful room in the afterlife. As he opened his eyes, he saw his whole family standing around him. Pets he had loved on Earth were coming up to him and nuzzling him.
What Happens to People Who Have No Family to Greet Them or Help Them?
People who have no family to greet them are met and cared for by people dedicated to helping others.
A sailor named Terry Smith came through in a Leslie Flint session describing a woman who had been assigned to take care of him. Terry found himself first in the life after this life walking down an avenue. He came to a house and a woman greeted him. She told him she was expecting him, and she would be taking care of him. She explained that he had drowned when his ship was sunk, along with a great number of other men.[v] She explained that every one of the sailors who had died had someone to look after them. She said to him, “Well don’t you worry, You will stay with me. I’ll look after you. I’ll be like your Mum.”
Will You Be Required to Meet People You Do Not Want to Meet?
There is no requirement that we meet people we do not want to meet and we will not meet them even though they want to connect.
As with all of our activities forever in our lives, we choose the people we want to meet and those we want to live with. We don’t have to voice our reservations about seeing someone. Our Universal Intelligence knows who we don’t want to see and ensures we never come into contact with them.
After Your Transition, You can Visit Your Loved Ones Still on Earth
You will have the free will ability to visit loved ones still on earth at any time, including soon after the transition.
The first thoughts of many who make the transition is of their loved ones still on earth. They wonder how they are or wish to see them and are either guided to them or immediately are in their presence in Earth School. However, most are very disappointed when their loved ones cannot see or hear them. Their loved ones don’t respond to their presence.
You can go to your funeral if you want to
People generally are no longer interested in their bodies after the transition, but those speaking from the afterlife often describe going to their own funerals. One man described his funeral. He said they put his body into a horse-drawn carriage to go to the cemetery. He wasn’t impressed by all the fuss. He was just standing there, although no one could see him. He said through a medium, “It was all so damned silly, cause there I was.”
A loved one’s grief may hold the person to Earth for awhile
When someone’s body dies, they may stay on the Earth for a time, unseen by people still in bodies. One reason they stay is that the grief of those still on earth holds these people to earth rather than allowing them to go on with their lives in the afterlife. Those living in the next life receive our thoughts and our emotions. People, especially children, who have left the earth quite often comment that their greatest disturbance after their transition is experiencing the grief of loved ones still on earth.
Dr. Alice Gilbert’s son, speaking to her from spirit, said, “Great grief keeps the departed tied up, frustrated and helpless.” They don’t feel they can move on.
However, loving thoughts and prayers that people on Earth think and say are wonderful for the person newly arrived in the afterlife. Frances Banks, communicating from the life after this life through medium Helen Greaves, said that these thoughts and prayers are like a draft of healing water for the person now in the afterlife.
Where Will You Go When You Enter the Afterlife?
Most people enter a realm called “Summerland” or “Heaven.” It is a beautiful world that is very much like Earth, but without the negatives. While on Earth, we are focused on this world. When we have the experience of the body failing, our Mind just changes focus from Earth School to Summerland or Heaven. There, we will have a vital, healthy, young body that is like the body we had in our 20s or 30s, but without defects. The person has a new focus with new experiences in realms with experiences, matter, and energy created by Our Universal Intelligence. This new world has people, animals, rivers, roads, flowers, and all the rest of the solid substance we have on the Earth School spiritual plane.
People go to live with their loved ones in comfortable houses. If the person has no one they were close to on Earth, a helper or companion comes to them when they pass over and takes them to their new home, where they will live together. Nobody is alone. But if someone prefers to live alone, they may do so.
What Is the Second Death?
When the Mind stops having body experiences by leaving the body behind, the person may continue on earth for a variety of reasons. Most people find themselves in the next stage of life naturally after the body dies. They wake from a sleep in a recovery location many describe as being like a hospital, or they wake in a familiar setting with loved ones around, or they awake in some other circumstances. A few, however, transition from the body and are as much a part of the earth environment as they were before the body ceased to function. They may wander around in the earth environment unseen, riding in cars, walking, going to favorite places, and otherwise acting as though still in a body. If they don’t realize fully that they have transitioned from the body, it may be a frustrating time of unsuccessfully trying to communicate with people.
At some time, the person who has been wandering the earth environment realizes they have transitioned away from the body and moves on to the next realm of life away from Earth School. This has been called the “second death. “Counselors and loved ones who have previously made the transition work at trying to help the person move on. The first transition stopped the body experiences. The second transition for some is when they finally leave the Earth School environment. It is a change of state of mind resulting in a change in focus on the new life in what has been called “Summerland” or “Heaven.”
You will have life reviewsI
People living in the life after this life say that all people experience two life reviews after making the transition.
In the life review, an individual reviews all the significant actions and events during their life, feeling the sentiments from their point of view as well as from the points of view of others who are involved. ASFASDFASDF No judgment or punishment results. People judge themselves. The purpose is to learn from the Earth School experience.
They describe two kinds of life reviews. The first is a review of life events without examining events emotionally. The second is termed “the judgment,” in which the person goes through a life review, feeling all the feelings and realizing all the thoughts of all people involved in the most salient events. The first, non-emotional review happens quickly and is experienced by earthbounds as well as people who have gone on to Level 3, or Summerland. The emotional life review occurs after the person has left the earth environment and has gone on to Summerland.
The first life review happens soon after the person enters the next life. The second life review is much more in-depth. The person experiences all the thoughts and feelings of the people involved in events in their life. That life review may take place later. A man named Bill Wooton in the life after this life, speaking through direct-voice medium Lilian Bailey, explained that some people put off the second life review for many years of earth time, not wanting to face what happened and the reactions of people involved.[vi] One source reports that people may put off the life review for hundreds or thousands of years.[vii]
It may seem that reviewing an entire life would take a long time, but outside of Earth School, time does not have the same meaning. The life review happens in great detail. All events are reviewed as they happened, in normal time. The whole process takes little of what we refer to as time in Earth School.
Will You Not Be Judged for How You Lived Your Life
There is no judgment. There is no condemnation. We judge ourselves after learning how our actions on Earth affected others.
We will evaluate our lives in the life review and come to our own feelings about the life we led. The life review helps the person learn from the results of their actions and perhaps the person feels regretful, sad, and dismayed, but those emotions are not inflicted upon the person. The emotions are signs we understand the impact our actions had on people so we learn about loving through reviewing our actions. We grow as a result of reviewing our actions and their effects on others.
Is There a Chance You Will Go to Hell?
No one speaking through mediums from the next life describes a hell or place of torment.
The concept of hell is a myth invented by the church in the second century CE. It is simply inconceivable that Our Universal Intelligence, embodying pure love, would torture people for a moment, let alone an eternity.
You can learn more about why the concept of a hell is a terrible, primitive mythology that must be erased from conceptions of the afterlife.
We know more about the transition to the next life than people have ever known. We have many hundreds of thousands of communications from people now living in the afterlife. They tell us without doubt that the transition is easy and painless. You needn’t worry about the transition to the next life. You will have a wonderful reunion with the people and pets you love.
