A Seek Reality Online member asked, “Isn’t the fact that some people get dementia or Alzheimer’s proof the mind is in the brain?” No, what happens to the body has no effect on the mind. In this video, I explain how someone seems to have deteriorated mental functioning because of dementia or Alzheimer’s, but their mind, that is their eternal self, is perfectly whole and healthy.

Proof Our Souls Never Have Dementia
When someone has dementia or Alzheimers, there’s a physical change in the brain. One description is that the brain looks like Swiss cheese, with holes where it has deteriorated. It couldn’t possibly create coherent thought or speech. From the materialist point of view, meaning from the point of view of someone who insists the mind is created by the brain solely, if a person doesn’t have a fully functioning brain, then coherent thought, speech, and other activities are impossible.
However, there are four areas of evidence proving people don’t need the brain to create thought or speech. The first is that people often have terminal lucidity.
Terminal Lucidity Proves Our Minds Are Not in Our Brains
In terminal lucidity, the person about to pass from this life who has had dementia or Alzheimer’s for years suddenly becomes completely alert, lucid, and intelligent. The person spends a day or two conversing clearly with loved ones, then passes into the next life. In one example, a man with Alzheimer’s was completely mentally incapacitated. He couldn’t process thoughts or speak clearly. If someone touched him, he would swat at the person as though swatting a fly. However, this man had a period of terminal lucidity hours before passing during which he was completely coherent, with no swatting at someone touching him. He had terminal lucidity because his mind was not in his brain. Without knowing it, he was playing the role of someone with a mental disability. His mind was not affected.
Blindsight: Blind People See in Near-Death Experiences
The second area of evidence proving people don’t need the brain to create thought, speech, or sensory experiences is that when people are released from the body temporarily during near-death experiences, they have fully functioning senses and mental activities. In one common phenomenon, people blind from birth, who have never seen, are able to see clearly during near-death experiences. It is a common phenomenon called blindsight.
Being able to see requires months for an infant to learn to decode what comes into the eye to make sense of what is seen. A person who has been blind since birth could not suddenly make sense of the environment during a near-death experience, but after a near-death experience, these blind people tell the medical staff about the colors of people’s clothing in the emergency room, what people were doing in the operating room and in other rooms, what the scribbles on notes are, who is sitting in the waiting rooms, and other sight experiences they accurately describe, despite having never learned how to see and being physically incapable of experiencing sight. Their minds don’t need their brains to have experiences.
People with Dementia or Alzheimer's Are Healthy in the Next Life
The third area of evidence proving people don’t need the brain to create thought or speech is that people who have had dementia or Alzheimer’s before their passing enter the next life, communicate back to their loved ones and have extended conversations with people on this side of life. They are perfectly lucid and clear in their communication. That’s also true of people who have Down syndrome or other mental disability. When they communicate from the afterlife, they are alive and well, with fully functioning minds. The disability was entirely in the physical body they left behind.
People with Mental Disabilities Communicate Clearly
The final area of evidence people don’t need the brain to function is that people with mental disabilities communicate while still alive to their loved ones. In one example, a man who had an Induced After-Death Communication with his son who had never grown mentally beyond the age of a young child and could not speak because of his disability communicated clearly to his father. You can watch a video containing the account of this young man by clicking on the link in the description below or the link on your screen.
The Soul of People with Dementia or Alzheimer's Is Lucid and Healthy
For all of these deteriorated or disabled mental conditions, the person’s mind is alive, well, and fully functioning. The person is just playing the role in Earth School that was planned before their birth. They are fully immersed in the role, so they cannot deviate from it. But immediately upon being released from the body, they return to normal. If the person has Down syndrome or other mental disability, they enter the next life at the age they were when they left Earth and grow up in the next life until they have fully functioning capabilities as a person in their 20s or 30s.
The fact that our minds are fully functioning, even when it appears the body is disabled, is another indication of the truth that you will come to the end of this life, but you will never die.
