Dr. Don Lincoln is an American physicist and author who conducts research in particle physics at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. In 1995, he was a co-discoverer of the top quark, and more recently, was a member of the team that discovered the Higgs boson in 2012.
On March 28, 2024, Dr. Lincoln gave a presentation at the Shingoethe Center of Aurora University. He explained the basic building blocks of reality. During his talk, he explained three remarkable properties of the most basic building blocks of reality:
- Empty space isn’t truly empty. It is filled with fields.
- Mass is made of energy fields that are empty space. We are made of energy fields.
- In a mass that weighs 200 pounds, the molecules weigh 200 pounds, the atoms weigh 200 pounds, and the protons and neutrons weigh 200 pounds. But the three quarks in the protons total to only 4 pounds. The other 196 pounds is energy.
This is Dr. Lincoln’s explanation:
The quarks are inside [the protons] and they are orbiting around moving at nearly the speed of light. The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second, fast enough to go around the earth seven times in a single second or 300,000 meters per second or rather 300,000 kilometers per second if you like metric. So these guys are really zooming in this tiny area. And if they’re really zooming, this guy comes into play because you’ve heard about Einstein and Einstein came up with this equation that says E equals MC squared. And if these things are moving very, very fast, then they have a huge amount of energy. And energy equals mass, and so therefore, if you have a lot of energy, you have a lot of mass, and so the mass that makes up us isn’t stuff. When we think of mass, something that’s heavy is just more stuff, it’s lead or it’s a rock, it’s more. But when you dig down inside a proton, remember the quarks don’t weigh anything themselves, but they have a lot of energy. Now they’re moving, so there’s a lot of motion energy, But remember, they’re moving at nearly the speed of light, 186,000 miles a second, inside the tiniest volume you can ever imagine. And that means there has to be incredibly strong forces holding them together. Or they’d fly off somewhere, right? Something goes fast, it goes flying. And so that means that there is a lot of potential energy.
So you’ve heard of motion in your physics class: motion or kinetic energy, potential energy. There is a tremendous amount of energy, but not much mass inside a proton. And so, when you put that all together, your mass, the mass that makes up you, the mass that makes up everything is 98% energy. It’s not stuff, it’s energy.
Dr. Lincoln is quick to state his belief this doesn’t mean we are energy beings, even though the facts seem to support that. And that energy is consciousness.
