People’s near-death experiences convinced two psychology professors of the reality of the afterlife

Their research has convinced them there’s a consciousness beyond our physical reality, they said at a South by Southwest panel in Austin, Texas, in 2022. “There is more than the idea that we just live in this body and die and that’s it,” Penberthy said.

People commonly describe

• Floating above their bodies as their body dies

• Seeing deceased loved ones
• Encountering a being of light
• Being given a choice to stay or go back
• A life review

Most experiencers describe the event as positive. It made them feel more caring and less materialistic. They lose their fear of death. The result is a restoration and reassurance for the experiencers, helping them let go of some of their grief.
